Support wildcard custom domains

For sites that have a lot of subdomains (like blog creation tools), it makes sense to add a wildcard subdomain with SSL managed by Render.

Wildcard domains are now available in early access. Please join #wildcards-early-access in render.com/chat for more!

We are investigating an option that does not involve pointing your nameservers to Render (where Render hosts your DNS), and also doesn't require ongoing manual renewal. Stay tuned!

Poll: In the very short term, would you be okay with manually updating DNS records every 3 months to renew your wildcard certificate? We will send you an email with instructions of course. Trying to figure out the quickest way to get this out, even if it's not the longer term implementation (which will involve pointing nameservers to Render).

Anurag Goel: Yes that would work for us. Actually for the short term I realized we can manually create the subdomains for our customers.

Anurag Goel: Yes I think that would work for us too

Anurag Goel: Well, this isn't professional. It's better to not ship such feature if it cannot be done in a proper way from the beginning. This kind of platforms are used mostly by beginners and every complication must be introduced carefully.
Anurag Goel
Robert Piosik: I agree.

Anurag Goel: yes but how long do you expect the work around?
Anurag Goel
Sunny R. Juneja: based on the feedback, we're probably not going to use the workaround.

Anurag Goel: I would love that and it would be enough for me to switch back to Render. Would be much less of a hassle than my current solution on Heroku (which supports wildcards but not automated SSL with them). And to the other comment’s argument, I see nothing unprofessional about solving customers’ needs in a quick and relatively easy way, rather not solving them at all for much longer. Plus, any "beginner" who asks for this feature should have no problem adding a DNS record every three months.

This is a blocker for us now

This can already be done by setting a * A record and pointing to the render load balancer. However it opens up the ability for anyone to register your subdomain for their app. What would be great is a way to "claim" ownership of a domain, so that only your account can assign a domain.
Anurag Goel
Mark Wylde: users claim ownership by adding domains to their web service, but we don't support adding wildcard domains yet.
