Managed Redis

I want Redis to be supported like Postgres. I don't want to think about restarts, health checks, or ensuring the service is running. I don't want to mess with the config to make it fast.

Hey Anurag Goel. Some feedback from my experience. I was trying out a Redis instance with my Rails app but it wouldn't connect. From the rails console I would get "Redis::CommandError: NOPERM this user has no permissions to run the 'client' command or its subcommand". It's worth pointing I had Redis already setup previously and just swapped the connection string so it seems like a lack of permissions on the Redis instance. Hopefully it works soon 🤞

Ricardo Bucho: Thank you for the feedback!! It is indeed due to the lack of permissions on the Redis instance. We're pushing out a fix, and will post here when the fix is deployed.
Jennifer Hwang
Ricardo Bucho: The fix has been deployed! You can create a new Redis instance (which will have the fix) and connect to it and it should work. Looking forward to getting any other feedback you may have!

Jennifer Hwang: That was fast :D Works now! Thanks for the update.

Redis can now be enabled in early access through account settings (see screenshot).
Once enabled, you will be able to create free managed Redis instances with a single click. We only support free, non-persistent instances for now, but persistence and associated pricing is coming very soon.

Anurag Goel: Can you deploy managed Redis with render.yaml?
Anurag Goel
Salvador Lopez Mendoza: It's coming, right after persistence.

Any updates? We'd love to jump on any betas if available?

We've started building it out!

Our team would be really interested in having this feature as well!
One thing we thought worth noting is that Heroku (our previous platform) had pretty high pricing for Redis ($120/month for 500MB of RAM), and it was definitely one of the factors we had to weigh when thinking about migrating.

Hosted Redis would be great. Redis 6.0 should be out of Beta into General Availability by the time the team is ready to take this on, and with that comes SSL. That SSL option is requirement for me. I'm not sure what the split would be between non-SSL usecases and SSL usecases, but ideally both options are available.
